Jana Koehler
I received my Ph.D. (Dr. rer. nat.) from University
of Saarland in 1994. From 1990 until 1995, I was working at the German
Research Center for AI
(DFKI),
project PHI. I was a guest researcher
at University of Linkoping in 1994, the University of Maryland in 1995, and a postdoc at ICSI Berkeley
in 1995/1996. From 1996 to 1999, I was an assistant professor at the University of Freiburg where I got my habilitation (Dr.habil.) and developed the IPP planning system. In May 1998, I started working as a consultant for
Schindler and joined the company between Fall 1999 and Spring 2001 to help develop a new elevator control platform that combines AI planning with principles known today as Service-Oriented Architecture.
In April 2001, I joined the Computer Science Research Department at the
IBM Zurich Research Laboratory where I have built up a new research group focusing on business-driven development, which is a software engineering methodology for the development of service-oriented architectures starting from business process models. I lead this group as a manager since 2005.
I am a member of the german Computer Science Society GI, a life-time member of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence AAAI, and president of the DFKI alumni association VFFDFKI.

My research interests develop with the projects I am working on: planning and scheduling
technology, combinatorial optimization techniques and complexity, workflow systems, model checking,
process algebras, service-oriented architectures, business process modeling, and semantic web. My current research mostly relates to the IBM WebSphere product and related services.
