Post-doctoral research position in magnetic tape storage

Description

We are seeking an outstanding post-doctoral researcher for our activities in magnetic tape storage research. Our activities aim at developing the technologies that will faciliatate the continued scaling of IBM's magnetic tape storage products in order to keep up with the explosive growth in the archival storage of digital data.

The candidate should have a strong background in physics or electrical/mechanical engineering and have excellent skills working "hands-on" in the laboratory. Familiarity in one or more of the following areas will be useful: magnetic recording, electronics, mechanical design, theoretical mechanics, mechatronics, finite element modeling (mechanical and/or electromagnetic) as well as knowledge of VHDL, C and/or DSP programming languages. The candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary team and should have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Applicants are expected to hold a PhD in Engineering or Physics and have an excellent track record of research at the international level. The candidate should be very creative and able to meet deadlines. This position is available starting immediately for a duration of 18 months.
