The certification of IBM Research - Zurich and of IBM Switzerland as family-conscious companies by an independent jury is a first success in IBM's drive to improve the work/life balance of its employees.
This marks a milestone in the work/life-balance project, which was initiated by IBM Research - Zurich in 2002 and is being pursued together with IBM Switzerland. The aim of the certification process was to gain a better understanding of employees' requirements and to raise the awareness of managers for work/life balance issues.
A central aspect of this on-going project is to promote the options available to employees to improve their work/life balance. For details, please refer to this slide show by my predecessor Hans Hofmann.
