Student residencies at IBM Zurich Research Lab

At any given time, our lab hosts some 40-50 students and post-doctoral fellows working on projects that give them exposure to IBM research and business objectives and contribute to their education and career development.

Program for doctoral students
In cases where universities allow their students to pursue a doctoral degree in industry, we offer students pre-doctoral positions for a period of typically three years. Such students work 60% of their time on an IBM project while devoting the rest to background research and writing their thesis. Their IBM project and the subject of their dissertation are closely related. The doctoral work is supervised jointly by a faculty member and a qualified member of our lab.

Bachelor's or Master's (Diplom) thesis
In cases where universities allow or even require it, we also host undergraduate students for the duration of their Bachelor's or Master's (Diploma) thesis, for a period of typically six months. These students work full-time on a small project that fits our research objectives. We ensure that this work is acceptable to the university as a suitable undergraduate thesis topic.

Student jobs
We employ also a number of students year round for periods of typically three months. Such practical training has to be a curriculum requirement of their university.

Interested candidates should send us their résumé together with a statement indicating their study plans and technical interests in relation to the research areas and projects described on our Web site.
