About the Binnig & Rohrer Nanotechnology Center

BRNC

IBM Research – Zurich, Empa and ETH Zurich embarked on a unique public–private partnership when they began plans to create the Binnig and Rohrer Nanotechnology Center (BRNC) ten years ago. Since it opened in May 2011, the BRNC has provided Switzerland with a world-class nanoscale research facility on the campus of IBM Research just outside Zurich.

The BRNC is a prime example of collaborative innovation in the field of nanoscience between IBM Research and ETH Zurich. It gives scientists from both institutions the necessary environment to perform cutting-edge research on novel nanoscale structures and devices in order to develop new information and communication technologies.

About the Symposium

With this symposium, we want to recognize the partnership by highlighting the achievements made so far, providing a forum to exchange ideas and looking together into the future.

In short presentations from leading scientists, a panel discussion and a poster session, we will focus on state-of-the-art research in nanoscience and technology and discuss what is needed in order to accelerate innovation in areas spanning materials design and integration, novel devices, advanced fabrication technologies, quantum and neuromorphic computing, next-generation IoT and low-power devices for such applications as the Internet of Humans.
