Topological states of matter
We are looking for highly motivated candidates for a master thesis work on topological states of matter. The research position is of experimental nature and involves fabrication and electrical characterization at ultra-low temperature of novel superconductor/semiconductor devices. The combination of superconductors and semiconductors is attracting considerable interest in recent years for quantum computing applications, as well as fundamental studies of topological effects in condensed matter.
The position will be shared between the Semiconductor Quantum Materials Laboratory (ETH Zurich) and IBM Research Europe in Zurich. The nanofabrication work will exploit the capabilities of the fully equipped state-of-the-art cleanroom in the Binnig and Rohrer Nanotechnology Center. Research will be conducted in a collaborative and creative team, embedded in a lively and international research environment.
Applicants are expected to have a strong background in solid state physics as well as a good knowledge of electronics and computer programming.
