Domain-Specific cloud FPGAs
We are inviting applications from students/researchers to conduct a 4 – 6 month internship in Domain Specific Cloud FPGAs, starting in the spring or summer of 2021. This internship aims at investigating the integration of the Vitis open-source domain-specific libraries with the cloudFPGA research platform of IBM Zurich. Specifically the candidate will extend our current workflow of porting accelerators from the Vitis Libraries to the cloudFPGA. In addition to the engineering challenges the candidate will be given the opportunity to explore the transition of the acceleration model from a PCI-attached one to a disaggregated one, that can scale up to 64 FPGAs per 2U node, bypassing CPU involvement.
The research focus will be on exploring techniques for implementing efficient network-attached FPGA accelerated services for domain-specific workloads running on Cloud environment. It also involves interactions with several researchers focusing on various aspects of the project. The ideal candidate should be well versed in distributed systems, and have basic FPGA skills (VHDL/Verilog, C++ High-Level-Synthesis, Xilinx Vitis/VivadoHLS/Vivado) and programming skills (C++, Python). It is not mandatory, but desirable to be familiar with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins/TravisCI), distributed source control system (Git) and code documentation (Doxygen). Good oral and written English with good presentation skills would also be an asset.
