Quantum Photonics: Engineering topological states of light

We are seeking an enthusiastic post-doctoral researcher to join our quantum photonics team at IBM Research Europe – Zurich.

The successful candidate will work on a project on engineering nonlinear topological states of light. The work is part of the European Horizon 2020 funded project TopoLight.

The candidate is expected to be familiar with the design and modelling of photonic nanostructures, their clean-room processing and optical characterisation. The work will include focussed ion beam milling of textured microcavities and microstructuring of electrodes, the study of non-linear optical properties of the fabricated microcavities as well as the study of topological edge states and topological polariton lattices at the forefront of polaritonic devices.

The successful candidate will be part of our Quantum Photonics Team comprising world-leading experts in polariton condensates, strong lightmatter coupling, Nano-science and -technology, and can benefit of a leading-edge infrastructure in our Binnig and Rohrer Nanotechnology Center as well as work with experienced staff and creative groups in an international research environment at IBM's Zurich laboratory.



Qualifications

  • An excellent academic track record
  • A PhD degree in physics, material science, photonic engineering or related engineering disciplines with outstanding success.
  • A strong background in clean-room processing, optical spectroscopy and knowledge of nanophotonic simulations and device characterization will be beneficial.
  • Very good communication and English language skills are desired.
