We do research on high-speed IO links and control electronics for quantum computing in state-of-the-art CMOS technology. Project

This semester project or master thesis focuses on characterization of state-of-the-art CMOS circuits using high speed and microwave measurement equipment. Topics could be the characterization of an ultra-low noise amplifiers and a high-speed ADC (analog to digital converter) at room temperature and cryogenic temperatures down to 4 Kelvin. This includes configuring the circuit via serial interface and measurements at cryogenic temperatures using liquid Helium.

The goal is to investigate if these circuits can be used for the control of our qubits, and to study the performance improvements of these circuits at cryogenic temperature compared to room temperature.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or a related technical field, preferably including equivalent practical experience.
  • Knowledge in analog and digital circuit design
  • Previous experience with electronic measurement equipment
  • Background in Matlab/Python/C++ programming languages and in Unix/Linux environments
  • Team player, self-motivated with a passion for technology and innovation

The internship position has a duration of 6-8 months. The ideal candidate would be a student, who is currently enrolled in a master’s program in Electrical Engineering or related field. We are also inviting applications from students to conduct their master’s thesis. The candidate will have the opportunity to gain experience and evolve in the field of analog, digital or mixed signal circuit design and characterization under expert guidance.
