New director of IBM Research - Zurich

Zurich, Switzerland, 11 July 2002—Effective August 1, 2002, Krishna Nathan has been named Director of IBM Research - Zurich. He succeeds Matthias Kaiserswerth, who has been appointed Managing Director for IBM's Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) customer account.

Krishna Nathan holds a doctorate in electrical sciences from Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island/USA, as well as a master's degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He joined IBM in 1991 at the T.J. Watson Research Center, where he held various research and management positions in pen computing, handwriting recognition, novel mobile platforms and related applications. From 1999 to 2001, he was director for consumer voice systems in the software group, where he was responsible for worldwide sales, marketing and development of IBM's consumer line of speech products. In his latest position he was executive assistant to IBM vice-chairman John M. Thompson.

Matthias Kaiserswerth has been named managing director for the ABB integrated customer account in IBM's Sales & Distribution organization and will manage the global relationship between IBM and ABB. He remains a member of the Research Management Council.
