Zurich, Switzerland, September 2003—Heike Riel, a member of the Display Technology group at IBM Research - Zurich, has been elected to TR100, the annual list of the world's 100 Top Young Innovators by Technology Review, MIT's magazine of innovation.
The TR100 list, chosen by the editors of Technology Review and an elite panel of judges, consists of 100 individuals under the age of 35, whose innovative work in technology is having a profound impact on today's world. Nominees are recognized for their contributions to transforming the nature of technology in such industries as biotechnology, computing, energy, medicine, manufacturing, nanotechnology, telecommunications and transportation. Heike Riel will be honored on September 24/25 at the Emerging Technologies Conference at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA, USA. The event features keynotes, panels and breakout discussions on the transformative technological innovations that have the potential to fuel new economic growth and dramatically change the future.
The October 2003 issue of Technology Review features the young innovators of this year's TR100 list. It includes portraits of Heike Riel and of two other young IBM researchers in the US, Kathryn Guarini and Martin Wattenberg, who received the same honor. They have also been recognized by an IBM press release.
