Molecule generation

Atomic manipulation generation

IBM scientists trigger and observe reactions in an individual molecule

Using atomic manipulation, we can form and break individual bonds within molecules. We create radicals on the surface and characterize them [1].

Intramolecular bonds can also be created, as recently demonstrated in the reversible Bergman reaction, induced by atomic manipulation [2].
