Probe storage

Project overview

Our group is engaged in exploring various coding, signal processing and servo control aspects of a data storage system based on the Millipede technology. Research activities comprise

· accurate modeling and characterization of thermomechanical sensors,
· design and implementation of advanced servo control schemes for rapid and accurate positioning on the nanometer scale,
· detailed modeling and characterization of the readback signal from a thermomechanical sensor,
· design and implementation of advanced data detection techniques,
· timing recovery approaches,
· constrained coding and ECC schemes as well as
· crafting the overall system architecture for a storage device.
